Research in my laboratory uses various arachnid groups to ask questions relating to the evolution of courtship communication and the putative role of sexual selection in species as well as signal divergence. I am broadly interested in both ultimate and proximate questions relating to signal evolution and as such I use a wide range of techniques involving: both field and laboratory-based studies and manipulations to assess behavior; broad comparative approaches such as multi-species comparisons and reciprocal mating trials; endocrine assays and manipulations; and electrophysiology.
